In recent years there has been a lot of activity going on in the Quantum Computing space. As Quantum Computers which not too long ago were a little more than a theoretical possibility become a reality, so does their potential to transform the world. While companies like IBM, Google, Intel, Amazon, and Microsoft, have been working in the Quantum Computing space, startups like D-Wave and IonQ have also joined the “Quantum Computing” party. The latest entry into this party has been made by Alphabet, the parent company of Google which has just spun out its Quantum Technology group into a new company- Sandbox AQ.
“The convergence of quantum and AI technologies is already transforming entire industries, accelerating scientific discovery and reimagining what we thought was possible.”
Eric Schmidt
While Google is not new in the field of Quantum Computing. In fact, Google was reportedly the first company to demonstrate Quantum Supremacy- a benchmark for a Quantum Computer where it outperforms a Classical Computer, in September of 2019 using its 54 Qubit Sycamore Processor. However, their claim to Quantum Supremacy was disputed by IBM, another front runner in the Quantum Computing race. Last year, Google also opened up its Quantum Computing Data Center and a lab for R&D in Santa Barbara, California with the aim of building a commercial-grade Quantum Computer with over 1 million Qubits by 2029.
Sandbox AQ is an enterprise SaaS platform that is solving previously unsolvable problems by harnessing the exponential power of AI combined with quantum – a phenomenon we call AQ.

However, Sandbox is different from Google’s Quantum Computing team which demonstrated Quantum Supremacy. While the Quantum Computing team at Google focuses on building the hardware for Quantum Computers such as Quantum Processors, SandBox AQ will focus on Software and Quantum Algorithms. Sandbox AQ was founded in 2016 and for the past five years has been developing practical AI and quantum tech solutions that address real-world business, scientific and computational challenges.
SandBox AQ is a Software as a Service(SaaS) that aims to solve challenging problems with the combined power of Artificial Intelligence(AI) and Quantum Computing, hence the acronym AQ. It is providing solutions for post-RSA cybersecurity modules that migrate enterprises to higher levels of security. These Sandbox AQ modules enable post-quantum cryptography (PQC) in line with the new standards that are now emerging in this field.
The compound effects of AI+quantum can’t be overstated: Even though fault-tolerant quantum computers won’t be commercially available for a decade or more, we have been delivering practical quantum and AI solutions that are solving real-world challenges for a broad range of industries, the scientific and academic communities, the federal government and more.

While Quantum Computers are still struggling with many issues such as decoherence and Quantum Noise, and Quantum Error Correction(QEC) has not yet reached the level to achieve Fault Tolerance. However, Sandbox AQ is already delivering quantum tech, services, and software solutions to make an impact on many industries and serve many customers in the fields of-
- Federal Government– Providing comprehensive cybersecurity, quantum sensing technology, and other quantum capabilities to the federal government.
- Life Sciences & Healthcare– AI + Quantum will accelerate drug development and also catalyze a new generation of medical diagnostic devices.
- Financial services– Improve cybersecurity, deploy more comprehensive risk analysis and develop novel portfolio optimization approaches.
- Cybersecurity– Protect critical infrastructure and sensitive datasets; enable secure comms and storage against SNDL attacks.
- Material Science & Manufacturing– Digital simulations and rapid prototyping of new materials, products, and designs.
- Global Navigation– Opening up new frontiers in GPS-free navigation for land, sea, and air. Focus on GPS denied environments and autonomous vehicles.
Initial customers of Sandbox AQ include Vodafone Business, SoftBank Mobile, WIX, Mount Sinai Health System, and the US federal government. Beyond the initial customers, there are plans to rapidly deliver quantum and AI solutions to Global 1000 enterprises at scale through strategic alliances which will be announced later.
Sandbox AQ website went live a couple of days, check it out here.
