OpenAI is an Artificial Intelligence Research company that was founded by, among other people, Elon Musk. And yesterday, they created history when it demonstrated Codex- a first-of-its-class Neural Network that can convert plain English into a programming language. And it would definitely be an understatement to say that people are amazed and still in awe of their achievement. It wasn’t long ago when OpenAI was in the news for GPT-3, a Neural Network trained on Natural Language data from the internet. Codex is a descendent of GPT-3, it is trained on Natural Language, as well as billions and billions of lines of code available from open-source projects such as those on Github. Codex is able to convert Natural Language into a couple of different programming languages such as Python, Javascript, Go, Typescript, PHP, Ruby, Swift, Shell, and Perl. In order to get people to work with Codex and understand it’s working, OpenAI is organizing the OpenAI Codex Challenge.
The OpenAI Codex Challenge challenge will consist of 5 Python Programming Puzzles. However, you will not be alone in your quest to solve these problems. You will have Codex by your side to help you with programming. You will be able to issue a pre-decided number of queries to Codex to get help from it. However, you must be careful with the task that you are assigning to it. If you assign it too much to do in one single query, it will not be able to understand and perform the task. Whats more? Codex will not just be a companion in the competition, it will also be one of your competitors, along with many other people who will also be accompanied by their own Codex.
If you haven’t seen OpenAI Codex in action so far yet, I recommend you to do so by watching the YouTube video below where the OpenAI team is introducing Codex.
Along with getting to work with Codex, there are also a few prizes. The top 500 finishers on the leaderboard will be given an OpenAI T-shirt. Your position on the leaderboard will be determined by how quickly you were able to finish the given 5 challenges. Therefore, it will be important to start the challenge as early as possible.
The challenge will begin at 10:00 AM and will last till 1:00 PM on 12th August, Pacific Time. This translates to 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM(on 12th August), Greenwich Mean Time, and 10:30 PM(12th August) to 1:30 AM(13th August), Indian Standard Time.
You can register for the challenge here. Registering for the challenge is a very simple and easy process, just provide your username, email, and choose a password, and you will be registered. You will be sent an email to verify your email, and that’s it; you are done with the registration.
You know the time, you know the place, See you in OpenAI Codex Challenge. Adios.
